In contemporary spiritual direction, the journey toward a deeper understanding of God involves guidance and companionship. This process includes attentive listening, identifying one's inner movements, and fostering hospitality and stability by fully engaging with the directee's experience. Spiritual direction is a profoundly spiritual phenomenon, relying entirely on the Holy Spirit's work rather than the director's abilities. The role of the spiritual director is to nurture and encourage what is being stirred within the person's soul, supporting their spiritual growth and development (Barry and Connolly, 1978, 11)
